What a Day
My day included two incredible political activities: an Obama volunteer meeting and the highly-publicized Bill Clinton speaking event. It’s been a busy, but full, day.
I have to say, seeing Bill Clinton in person for the first time in my life was a pretty amazing experience.
The line-buddies I met while waiting out in the cold for an hour and a half lifted my spirits. Groups of people kept arriving and extended the line far beyond my ability to see its end. Local Democratic candidates worked this whole line that snaked around the South Overton neighborhood for blocks and blocks. And, in true Lubbock fashion, we even had a street preacher tell us all about the real change that could only come from Jesus.
As to the speech inside the LHS gym, State Rep. Richard Peña Raymond (D-Laredo) got the crowd warmed up, and local Democratic Party Precinct Chair Marjorie Reynolds had the honor of introducing the man himself. President Clinton had the crowd well on his side (except for that one dude who showed up with a “Stop Hillary Clinton” sign) before he even began to speak.
I find myself still reflecting on President Clinton’s words. He is an amazing speaker with a down-to-earth metaphorical language and a genuine ability to empathize with people. I don’t know that I’m going to switch my primary preference from Obama, but he certainly made a strong case that has me stopping and thinking. I imagine undecided voters that heard him speak are thinking back on his words tonight, too. I’ll elaborate tomorrow.
I don’t have pictures up yet, but surely some of the hundreds of cameras that were snapping at the event have already produced some online pics. Also, my little blog here worked overtime yesterday, breaking the 100 visits (not hits) in a day mark for the first time as people searched for details about Bill Clinton speaking in Lubbock. I hope I helped some folks make it to this event!
This is easily the most exciting Democratic Party Primary in my lifetime. I can’t wait to see what the next three weeks will bring.

Our reaction in Amarillo a couple of hours earlier was similar. I didn’t notice any street preachers here but there were some people with incomprehensible signs about Israel and China.

What up, spacedark! I enjoy the work you do over at pandhandletruthsquad.
We had one lady who snuck in a T-shirt that she waved around like a sign, but we couldn’t read all of it. It was a pro-Clinton message, though.
